Mixology were the chorus singers for Beauty & The Beast with MAVIS Productions. In fact, it was our last performance of 2023 and ended up being one of the highlights of the year. Hanging out with the MAVIS cast and crew, singing in the green room, cheering for each performer during their big moments, singing our hearts out during the big moments… Just wow. It was so good, it tasted like more… And by more, we mean there are two more musicals coming up this spring that MIX will be helping with, one of which is RENT! Because doing any musical takes additional learning (outside our regular repertoire and performance calendar) plus runs of 2-5 days of performances, not every Mix singer can swing it. Mixology A Cappella will be singing in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast – The Broadway Musical, put on by Mavis Productions at The Conrad Centre for Performing Arts in December. Enjoy the beautiful harmonies of 3 unique barbershop ensembles in one EPIC show as part of the SING! Toronto Vocal Arts Festival. Harbourtown Sound is a men’s chorus from the Burlington/Hamilton area who will be representing Ontario this summer at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Chorus Competition. Mixology A Cappella Chorus (out of Kitchener-Waterloo) is an all-voices ensemble from the Kitchener/Waterloo area and is the top-scoring Mixed Chorus as part of the Mixed Barbershop Harmony Association (MBHA) in Canada. Lastly, Maple Reserve (formerly Yonge Guns) has been entertaining audiences worldwide and is Canada’s premiere barbershop quartet. An open mic afterglow is planned for after the show, so if you want to come with your ensemble, there is even a chance to sing on the big stage! It has felt so good to be together in the same room and singing again! The last couple of years have been ROUGH to say the least. Zoom rehearsals are not very much fun. We’re also beyond excited to have some incredible new additions to the group. New Mix singer, Brian Otto, sang Bring Him Home (from Les Mis) and brought tears to our eyes. Brian plays in community musicals and theatre productions when not taking the stage with Mixology. PS – We gave him like ten seconds warning before filming this!

How fun was it to open Belmont Village Bestival Music and Arts Fest this morning!?!  The weather was perfect. We had a blast kicking off the event and opening ceremonies 🙂

Even though we weren’t able to represent Canada at the Bing! Musik Festival in April due to Covid-19, we wanted to sing a message to everyone in our own way. This is for you, Canada, and for our a cappella friends across the globe. xo

We have been holding our breath as we watched the numbers of COVID19 infected patients rise steadily in Europe over the past two weeks. And even though reality was setting in, we were still holding out hope that the world competition would go forward somehow. Unfortunately, the right call had to be made by Bing!, and that was to postpone the competition for the sake of everyone’s health and safety. Here’s is the official announcement from Bing!…. When we first started Mixology, it was with the goal of creating incredible music by incredible singers, with the vision of possibly competing and making it to the Bing! World Musikfestival to represent Canada. Fast forward to October 2019… First competition, somehow scored the highest mixed chorus score in Canada, and are invited to compete in the Worlds. Fast forward to five minutes later, as we realize how expensive this endeavor is going to be for our singers. The March 6th ‘Evening of A Cappella’ fundraiser was all about entertaining our friends, family and fans while helping to raise money toward flights and accomodations for our 37 singers headed to Germany. Well, to say the night was a smash would be an understatement. Every seat was filled, including our VIP tables which were sold out in a matter of weeks. The silent auction, which was sponsored by the many incredible people who donated items, had over 50 items in it and raised over $10,000 alone. On Feb 1st, 2020, pretty much the entire Mixology chorus headed to Westedge in Mississauga to sing our hearts out for Toronto area fans. Starting at 7pm, the Mix in Mississauga Concert was a fun night full of a cappella harmony by Canada’s top scoring mixed chorus. Every ticket purchased went toward sending our singers to Germany to compete in the world mixed chorus competition – BinG! Musik Festival. The night included great music ranging from Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars to genres stretching from jazz, rock, pop, contemporary a cappella and barbershop! Mix in Mississauga also featured: Sharp Attack Quartet Romancing the Tone Quartet Mixology Chorus Silent Auction Snack Bar & Cafe Special thanks to Westedge Community Church for supporting our event!
